GENEVA: (AP) The head of the United Nations says he hopes the next U.S. president will show greater leadership than the current administration in tackling climate change.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says the United States has been playing an important role on the world stage in discussing how to fight global warming.
But he says the U.S. hasn’t done enough considering it is the world’s top economy and one of the world’s biggest emitters of greenhouse gases.
Ban says both Barack Obama and John McCain may be in a better position to lead the world in tackling climate change than President George W. Bush.
Ban spoke to journalists in Geneva on Sunday at the opening of a meeting of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
